A tale of System Integrators

I spent almost four years of my professional life working with one of the top three system integrators in India - Wipro Technologies.
A very common question from the customers when they chose their system integrators - Why should I chose the system integrator X? How is it different from the system integrator Y?
It is very challenging to measure the performance in a service provider industry and in the recent days the system integration business is becoming more like a commodity business. Thus it is the most challenging both for the provider and the taker in choosing the right partner.
Until three - four years back, big players like Wipro had six sigma compliance and a matrix organization providing expert services, as some of the point of differences in providing value to its customers. But if we look at the industry now, this is no more the truth.
It's apparent that these companies understand that they are in the battle field with a large number of look alikes. But do they relaize yet that they are in the commodity business?
