It is apparent that the Operating System manufacturers are already out there fighting the war, but when we look at VMware's bare metal technology it is a pounding question ot the OS players " How long you think you can go on?? ".
Yes the bare metal technology has the capability to turn over the whole game of operating system. It would enable any applications to run directly on the hardware eliminating the need of an operating system. Is it a space that major OS players should think entering? I would say yes, definitely.May be partner with a company exploring this technology.
I am keeping my fingers crossed to witness the whole twist in the OS Cold war.

Adam - The new iPad killer made in India
The six IITans and an MBA from India has created the latest buzz of a netbook while Apple has almost failed to make the buzz with its oversized iPhone - the iPad.
What's great about Adam' tablet:
1. It comes with nVidia’s Tegra 2 chip and a PixelQi screen. This enables twice the battery life and performance of the iPad.
2. It has a swivel camera which can be a revolution in taking the lecture notes ( Please watch the video in the link)
3. Comes with three USB port and a HDMI port
Some interesting facts:
1. Priced less than iPad.
2. Adam will run on Andriod, Ubuntu and Chromium.
3. Releasing in July in the US retail market - but Apple might release its next gen iPad before July with every feature we could think of. Hmm...Notionink needs to think about this.
Inspite of Adam's great technology and incredible features, it is surprising to see that the company's website is still under construction. They havn't given any thoughts on having presence in the social media and eventually lacks search engine optmization too. Given the fact that Adam tablet would be a potential competitor for the iPad, the lack in social media presence sends negative signals to the company. I have mailed the company about my ideas, let's see what the NotionInk does.

Is free sustainable??
After the speculations about Youtube endangering Netflix, I ought to think about "Is free sustainable"? Netflix is just a small example when we think about MSOffice getting phased out by Google docs, the most expected Google Chrome OS, Google wave that could potentially replace Webex and Skype. Is Google trying to kill the licensing business once for all? Here Google seems to set a trend for most of the business models through each and every application they innovate. Google does this because 97% of its revenue is from the online advertising, and it doesn't need money from the licensing business. But is it fair enough that it puts an end to all other players in the licensing market? Imagine the situation when Google is no more the portal where the advertisers go to post their advertisements. What would happen to Google and the others like Microsoft,Apple and other players like Netflix, Webex(Cisco)?? Is free sustainable?

OS coldwars - Cloud Computing is the driver?
Most of us are either a PC or a MAC and we wouldn't like to switch from/to either OS. But cloud computing seems to be give a complete twist to this situation. Given the fact that we are hooked on to the internet 24*7, it is easy for a player like Google to come up with its Chrome OS and tell us that you won't need any heavy processing OS on your laptop and just carry a light weight netbook and use our applications for free. What should Google and Apple do in this case? What is going to happen to the years worth of OS licensing business? Microsoft and Apple moving to netbook business could be a better solution?
But the next few years would still be good for the traditional OS business which is evident from Microsoft's 60% increase due to Windows 7 sales. My guess is that Apple's long speculated iPad is probably not the right time now to get released and it is going to be hard for Apple to justify the necessity of an iPad.
But it is inevitable that Microsoft's OS would be in trouble soon in the consumer market especially with consumers on the go. Though Microsoft offers OfficeLive, how many of us even know about it?
Having used Microsoft OS for running most of the software development tools, I doubt that Microsoft's enterprise market will have any issues. Let's keep pur fingers crossed on more updates on this space.

Bing a Bang?!!
Ok, how many of you are a fan of Bing? Are you too obsessed with Google and telling me that nothing can beat Google? Well, I tend to differ here. I like to try out different applications that get released and I am always open to thinks that are. In the marketing world I would be named an 'Early Adopter". Let's see how and what Micrsoft wants its Bing to bang!
Search engine industry is not new for Microsoft as we all know. They cudn't create a remarkable footprint with their early engines- Live search and MSN search, but now I strongly believe that they have positioned Bing differently than the rest of the search engines in the market. Yes, Bing is purely for e-commerce is my opinion. You should try to buy your ticket or find a restaurant in Bing. Then you will know what I mean.
Why you think Microsoft would do this? My answer is Online Advertising! Well, Microsoft is not here yet. They are not only have to increase the traffic to their website but there is a lot for them to catch up with Google. Google has nearly 1 trillion indexes whereas Micrsoft is far behind with million indexes. Moreover Google is now more just a habit for all of us, and it is not jsut the search engine but all other services like mail, chat, online docs etc.
Despite the challenges, Microsoft is willing to endure in the hope that Bing will eventually gain traction and market share in the search engine industry. The future for online advertising is looking greener than ever and I would say that Microsoft has rightly positioned itself to take advantage of the growing market.
